Help!

Help!

Helping hand
As a teenager I spent many hours with my Walkman cassette player listening to the Beatles sing an assortment of songs about relationships. One for which they are well known, Help!, has some relevant words that can benefit us if we choose:

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone,
Help!

Do we really need somebody? Or, do you sometimes think you are better off alone? Studies have consistently shown that we as human beings do better with healthy companionship. From infancy we are taught to rely on other human beings. Our parent(s) hopefully provided for our needs, helped us feel safe, and helped us feel wanted. We sought such assistance, and came to rely on it. That healthy reliance is carried with us as we age. We thrive on healthy companionship where someone can help us feel safe and wanted.

Do you feel safe and wanted in your relationship? That should be the goal of any relationship. There are many strategies that can help partners feel safe that all hinge on a willingness to be emotionally vulnerable with your partner. Are you willing to be emotionally vulnerable with your partner? Is she/he willing to be vulnerable with you? Do you need ideas on how to do this? If you live in Utah and need help, call us for some quality marriage counseling. Make it a goal and work toward creating a safe healthy reliance on one another. If you do, your call for Help! will be answered by a partner that will Help [you] get [your] feet back on the ground.
