Don’t Worry! You won’t need to travel to a monastery in Tibet. Calming your inner self is a skill that can be learned through consistent practice. Here are some principles that can be of use in working toward an increased state of serenity.
1. Use Some Mindfulness
Mindfulness can be especially handy because you can do it anytime and anywhere! In it’s most basic form, mindfulness involves noticing your thoughts without judgment and tuning into your senses. If you want to practice, follow the link below!
2. Cut Back on the Comparisons and Reinforce the Self-acceptance
Complete self-acceptance means owning the bad elements of self as well as the good. It is our imperfections and idiosyncrasies that make us who we are. Just think of a world where everyone was perfect. The movie Stepford Wives comes to mind. Creepy! Acknowledge the inauthenticity of the Hollywood and social media façades and embrace your beautifully flawed humanity!
3. Take Time to Tune Into Your Source
We all have things that we do to recharge. For some it comes from spiritual practices while for others it comes from being in nature. I’m guessing that even as you’re reading this you’re thinking, “I’d rather be…” Life can often feel more like the stock exchange than a serene meadow. However it is you connect, work it back into your schedule. There will be more of you to give at work, at home, or in other settings if you take time to plug yourself into your own personal outlet of energy.
